After the completion of my first solo show "Manifest" in September, I vowed to take a couple months off from painting. However, that only lasted a day. I was back in my studio painting and working on many large scale works. This painting entitled "Efflorescence," is something I have been wanting to do for a long time. I always wanted to do a grand flower piece. Purchasing a vase from a local antique store and some flowers on clearance from Kroger (money was no object apparently), I set out to stage my still life. With a blueprint set, I started painting and letting my imagination tell me the true appearance and personality of each individual flower.

"Manifest" at Desotorow Gallery

A month ago I was honored with the privilege of being the first recipient of the Desotorow Gallery Inc. "Exhibition Fellowship." This opportunity gave way to my first solo exhibition entitled "Manifest." A body of work that is purely based on raw imagination and the beauty behind the handcrafted. The reception was also a part of the September Art March in Savannah, GA. A great experience to share my work with not only locals but also other artists and professionals. I was lucky enough to have my painting "Kerfuffle" featured on the cover of the Savannah Connect Magazine as well. I cannot thank Desotorow enough for the opportunity and being so helpful throughout the entire process of installation and all. I highly recommend applying for the "Exhibition Fellowship" and supporting the gallery as much as possible. If you are going to be in the Savannah Area on the first Friday of October be sure to check my good friend Sami Lee Whoolhiser's exhibition "Translations." Whoolhiser's work evokes a dialogue between the art and the audience adding a new element to her list of materials. The reception for "Translations" is October 4th 6-9 pm. The show runs from October 1 - 12th. Its a show not to be missed!!!

Desotorow Inc.’s Exhibition Fellowship

Excited to say that I won the Desotorow Inc.'s Exhibition Fellowship and will be having my first solo show entitled "Manifest." The show will be held, with a reception on September 6th, at Desotorow Gallery in Savannah, GA. It will run from September 3rd - 14th. An artist talk will be held on Friday the 13th as well.

In 2012 I designed an identity system for "1:17 Center for Global Adoption." Check out their website (linked below) to see the logo I designed and also to see what great things 1:17 is doing for the adoption of orphans.

"Orb.8" - Process & Finished Result

This morning I started working on "Orb.8" that I had constructed a day before. Little did I know that this piece would consume me in a positive way. Finished "Orb.8" around 8 p.m. this evening. The images below show my process and the last two show the finished result. Enjoy.

More Painting Progress

Today I spent my morning and afternoon tightening/refining and placing more gestures/shapes in certain sections of "Orb.1." Much more painting to go before the piece becomes finished. I am exited to say that "Orb.1" will be a kinetic painting. Will show the final piece and movement in a week. "Orb.2" is also about ready to be cut out of wood and assembled. Excited. 

After spending much of my time on "Orb.1," I started bringing warmer hues to my portrait "Jacobi." It was exiting to see the dead flesh tones turn into the living.

Works in Progress!!

It has been a very productive couple of days in the studio. I am working on "Orb.1" and a large, commissioned portrait. Many other things are in the works as well but are under construction. Also I included a picture of the balcony off my studio. A great place to paint. 

"Unititled"

Started applying flat color over the sketch. After the entire canvas is full of flat color I will be applying washes to create a realistic portrait. 

"Orb.1"

Have been working on placing a rough blueprint of the shapes and gesture lines on "Orb.1." Have more gestures to add and will be tightening up everything.
